The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has completed the modernization of two elevators at the 3 Av–149 St station in the Bronx, improving safety, accessibility, and reliability for over 10,000 daily riders.
As part of the project, LiftComm provided the updated elevator intercom systems, supporting real-time communication, security enhancements, and ADA compliance aligned with ASME A17.1-2019 standards.
These upgrades are part of the MTA’s broader effort to modernize the aging elevator infrastructure systemwide, with a focus on ensuring riders have reliable access across all boroughs.
In addition to replacing elevator cabs, mechanical systems, and electrical equipment, the project included an upgrade to the intercom systems, critical for emergency communication and ongoing passenger safety. The new LiftComm intercoms are:
• ASME 17.1-2019 and ADA compliant
• Built with integrated voice and text capabilities
• Supported by on-prem or hosted software, depending on system requirements
• Designed for high-traffic, high-demand environments like transit systems
By modernizing the intercoms alongside the elevators themselves, the MTA ensures that Bronx riders benefit not just from a smoother ride, but also from more responsive support when it matters most.
LiftComm is proud to support the MTA’s ongoing accessibility improvements, providing secure, durable, and scalable elevator communication systems that meet the needs of today’s riders and tomorrow’s infrastructure demands.
As elevator replacements continue across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, we’re committed to delivering communication solutions that perform where it matters on the move.
