14th Street/sixth Avenue Station

New York, New York – [12/19/2023] – Lift Communications is proud to announce the successful implementation of its latest intercom system at the 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station in New York City. These systems ensure that the elevators within the station meet ADA compliance within the framework of the ASME A17.1/CSA B44-2019 Safety Code for Elevators, enhancing passenger safety and accessibility.

Ensuring ADA and ASME A17.1/CSA B44-2019 Compliance

The ASME A17.1/CSA B44-2019 code mandates reliable two-way communication systems in elevators for emergencies. In conjunction with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, these systems must be accessible to all passengers, including those with hearing and vision impairments. Lift Communication’s new intercom solutions at the 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station are specifically engineered to meet and exceed these requirements, featuring:

24/7 Two-Way Communication: Reliable communication between passengers and emergency services.

• Inclusive Design: Features for passengers with hearing, speech, and vision impairments.

• Backup Power Systems: Ensures operation during power outages.

Enhancing Safety and Accessibility

The 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station, located at Eighth Avenue and 14th Street in Manhattan, serves the A, E, L, and C trains. The station is now fully ADA-compliant with an accessible entrance at 14th Street and the recent installation of Lift Communications intercom.

“At Lift Communications, we are dedicated to improving public transportation safety and accessibility. Our new intercom systems at the 14th Street/Eighth Avenue station are designed to comply with ASME A17.1/CSA B44-2019 standards and enhance ADA compliance, providing peace of mind for operators and passengers,” said Eric Schnabolk, President of Lift Communications. “Reliable communication in emergencies is critical, and our technology ensures it is always available.”
